15% of children in the U.S. suffer of childhood obesity; the recent quantity has multiplied for seven in 30 years. Quantity that has led scientists to consider this disease as an epidemic. Although the quantity of children who suffers of childhood obesity seems to be controlled, it is important to take into account the causes and possible consequences if we don’t anything about.

The changes of alimentary habits are the principal reason of the obesity. One important cause is the consumption of healthy food. Either by parents, programs or spot advertising that children have declined significantly the consumption of fruits, and vegetables, but increasing the consumption of foods with high calories and sugarslevels. Another important cause is the “sedentary lifestyles”, since children have replaced sports with video games, television or another way of entertainment, and becoming worse the problem of childhood.

There are theses which point out that one cause of obesity may also be emotional problems such as lack of affection to children by their parents or family environment where the food becomes the substitute for the lack of affection or reward for good behaviour.

As we know obesity leads to physical problems that children could suffer like diabetes, cholesterol, triglycerides, hypertension, and hepatic disorders, which could generate low self-esteem of the child or stigmas toward him. Of continuing with the problem the mostprobable thing is that the time of life of the following generation diminishes. Furthermore, there are studies that indicate that the obesity reduces the life expectancy in 13 years.
